It's All About Me, the Couch Patatas!

Typhoon Frank Ruined My Weekend

I was planning to accomplish many things last weekend but Frank ruined them all. I was supposed to:

1. Shop for Pants
2. Have a haircut
3. Shop for Baptismal Gifts
4. Shop for Kitchen Utensils

Note: I am using my psychological wallet a.k.a credit card since salary was still a week from that time.

However, after reading several news items I felt bad about myself. Geez, I was being selfish. People are dying, losing homes, losing kins, etc and all I thought was Frank ruined my weekend.

Aside from that, my cousin lay on the hospital after suffering miscarriage. All I was thinking was I need to get out of the house. To think the only reason why I wanted to run and go about was I am tired of being a couch potato. Though I have plenty of movies to watch, I was not really in the mood to lie on bed all day. But Frank came, my modd really turned sour. I did not even go to mass and visit my cousin. After several hours, I felt bad about my actions and my self.

Frank really ruined my weekend because he made me felt bad and I became a Couch Potato again for 3 weeks running. I really need to do something about my weekend. Rest is needed but being a couch potato is tiresome and a shitty experience.

On to the DVD:

I watched Full Metal Alchemist for the whole weekend and finished the 51 episodes. For new anime fans (like me), this one is a must-see. To summarize the story, two brothers attempted human transmutation through alchemy, the science of their world. With the concept of equivalent trade, Ed (older brother) lost his leg while his Al (younger brother) lost his body. To ensure Al will not die, Ed sacrificed his arm to be able to attach Al's soul onto a suit of armor.

Human Transformation is taboo because this is an attempt to bring someone back to life. Though they know it is forbidden, the brothers attempted it to bring their mother back to life. This act created the path for the brothers to search for the Philosopher's Stone. It is a stone believed to let them forego equivalent trade. The search will lead them to many troubles but they continued to search for it in order to return their bodies to normal. Will they succeed?

The anime touches on political concepts and the familiar family concepts. Though a common topic in the literary world, what makes it a good anime is the flow of the story. It was not rushed. You see a clear purpose and direction. The important characters were developed beautifully. This gives you a sense of being with the brothers as they traverse their quest.

You must also look into the characters and the details given to each to match their personalities. Even Al, who is a suit of armor, have the details that matches his personality.

The personalities to look out for are:
1. Edward Elric - older brother
2. Alphonse Elric - younger brother
3. Roy Mustang
4. Maes Hughes

You might be asking why these four and why all guys, well, it is a shonen anime so most of the characters are guys. Lastly, their storyline, for me, is interesting. I included Maes because it is biankita's favorite and most of the anime bloggers liked him (according to biankita).

Well, that was my weekend. This weekend will be different because I will be really busy. Rain or shine, I need to be out and about.

P.S. I have not watched the movie. I will look for it when I have time. Thanks to biankita for letting me borrow the DVDs. I will watch it again so I will return it sometime July. If you are an anime fanatic, you might want to try out her blog. She is an anime blogger after all. From there, you can go to other anime blogs that provides good insights and feedbacks.

Here is another Baguio slideshow that showcases our team from a different camera and accessing a totally different site. There are no captions since I am just accessing a friend's own slideshow. It supposes to fill those spaces from the other camera. Enjoy!

Company Picnic

If I read it right, our company picnic was titled Sound in the Sun. There were sounds but it was not under the sun. It was under the moonlight. Nevertheless, I would say, it was fun. Despite all the hassles in the morning and the program prior to the DJ, the pictures here would say, the DJ provided great music that most appreciated. Do not forget, we are so near the booze area. We were buzzing after. Enjoy the sights though you were not there to enjoy the sound. To DJ Mars Miranda, kudos for a well-thought ensemble, it definitely made our night.

There are more shocking photos (I am waiting for the other cameras). The people really let loose during this night. It was fun until it lasted and we started trekking back to the hotel. Trekking back and forth to the hotel and other shitty experience would be for another blog. Enjoy the photos!

Doing Nothing on Weekends

Well, this post is an introduction of sorts to one of the things I love doing. I love collecting movies. I share this passion with my father. My siblings are not the type though to seat through a movie unless it fancies them. Most of the time though, I watch alone so I can really get into the movie.

I have several VCDs/DVDs of Blockbusters and Classics and the not so good but I love watching them because I laugh hard or weep hard. For certain posts, if I have nothing to rant about, I will share my insights on movies I watch at home. These insights are not something I live by. I just find them a good guide since I believe with the cliche that movies mirror reality.

Since this is an introduction, and if ever somebody comes across this blog, I am looking for Citizen Kane and Gone with the Wind DVD copies. I am looking for original pieces. If you know a store (for Filipino Movie Lovers/Foreigner Movie Lovers living in Manila/Philippines) or online store that delivers internationally (International Movie Lovers/Filipino Movie Lovers living abroad), please ping me. I would be most grateful. I have been searching since I started collecting.

Note: I have tried the common ones like Amazon, etc. They do not have it.

With that said, see you on my first installment, one week from now. I am still thinking what to write about. I need to watch a feel good movie first I guess. I also need to shop for newer releases.

P.S. Yes, I have VCDs of some movies because it is cheaper.

September - A Month To Remember

I can't wait for September. I will be very busy with the next three months so I really look forward to September. The reasons I look forward to a great September:

1. iPhone will be released here. I am praying we get good data plans. I will replace my phone in a heartbeat.

2. There is a plan to go to Boracay. The team is discussing this option. After a gruesome three months, we will definitely deserve a break. To the beach, here we come.

3. Reason three is the acknowledgement that I have been with this team for three years running. From the original 11, only 4 of us remain. There have been several changes of the guards. However, the team remain strong and accomplishes numerous achievements for the past years. Go STEAM!

I can't wait for September.

P.S. Jen Tan san tayo?
